Abstract:

In drug assessment and development, limitations of mammalian models paved the search of complementary vertebrate model systems. Zebra fish has exhibited promising results in current researches because of its fecundity, morphology and physiology. It is facile system with unique characteristics of synchronously developing embryos, optical clarity and real time imaging at developmental stages, sophisticated mutagenesis and large scale screening. Easy drug permeability and delivery at comparatively lower costs makes this organism a simple and viable model for life threatening diseases as cancer in drug assessment, target identification and disease modelling.
